biarritzzz

(Brazil, 1994)

biarritzzz is a transmedia and anti-disciplinary artist whose practice explores different languages, codes, and media, articulating a critique of contemporary digitality and virtuality. Her work addresses themes such as pop culture, meme pedagogies, video game aesthetics, improvisation, and the politics of error, blending poetry and moving images. For the artist, playfulness, magic, and low resolution are essential tools for navigating current disputes between different cosmologies.
At the 14th Mercosul Biennial, biarritzzz presents a commissioned sound and visual installation that narrates the journey of friction musical instruments from North Africa to the Iberian Peninsula, connecting these roots to Brazil, the rebec, and its kindred instruments. The work includes four musical tracks created in collaboration with Maciel Salú, a rebec master from Pernambuco.
