Cornelius Andrew
(England, 1936-1981)
Cornelius Cardew (England, 1936-1981) was a composer known for his innovative contributions to experimental music and avant-garde music of the 20th century. Cardew began his career with an interest in electronic music and serialism, influenced by composers such as Karlheinz Stockhausen. In 1969, he founded the Scratch Orchestra, which brought together musicians and amateurs in collaborative performances. In the 1970s, influenced by Marxist ideals, Cardew abandoned experimentalism in favor of compositions with social and revolutionary themes.
