Gervane de Paula (Brazil, 1961)
Gervane de Paula (Brazil, 1961) is a self-taught visual artist. He draws, paints, makes artistic objects, and creates installations. His research uses a sharp sense of humor to reflect on topics such as the notions of center and periphery, the Brazilian Midwest and Southeast, and criticizes the visual arts system and the destruction of essential Brazilian biomes. His first retrospective - “How Good Is to Live in Mato Grosso” - was held last year at the Pinacoteca of São Paulo. In addition, he has shown his work in group and solo exhibitions in Belém do Pará, Fortaleza, La Paz, Rio de Janeiro, and Washington. Nominated for the Pipa Prize (2018). He lives in Cuiabá, Brazil. He participates in the Mercosul Biennial as part of the project LING Apresenta, by Instituto Ling, curated by Paulo Henrique Silva in 2025.
