Ulises Beisso
(Uruguay, 1958-1996)
Ulises Beisso (Uruguay, 1958-1996) was a visual artist known primarily for his contributions to painting and drawing. Beisso combined his professional activities as a psychologist, illustrator, and graphic designer with a vibrant artistic production that combines multiple references to classical art, mythology, applied arts, and illustration. His work, of a personal, autobiographical, and sensitive nature, proposes thinking in terms of identity, dissent, and diversity in the cultural context of Montevideo in the 1980s and early 1990s. He participated in important exhibitions throughout his career and was widely recognized posthumously in retrospectives that highlighted his artistic and cultural impact. He lived much of his life in Montevideo, Uruguay.
