Through meta-narratives laced with dark humor, Li Yi-Fan explores our coexistence with technology. His videos are created using software and devices of his own design, including a game development platform that allows him to improvise in real time with 3D animations.
With settings and situations that border on the absurd and the grotesque, What is Your Favorite Primitive (2023) addresses issues related to digital animation and the changes brought about by technological media, which ultimately alter our perception of reality. The work presents a parody of a lecture on computer graphics, in which the artist’s avatar discusses image production tools and the impact of their use on representation, subjectivity, and ethics while reflecting on the implications of the intersection between artistic creation and economic interests.
