those rocks that make cliffs units of time
Fundação Ecarta
Have you ever stopped to think that when you're looking at a cliff, you're looking at a geological calendar? You're looking at layers of time generated by abrupt movements whose intensity broke what was the surface at that moment. The works at Fundação Ecarta are linked to practices and epistemologies that diverge from the Western canon. For centuries, attempts were made to silence them; however, in recent decades, they have reappeared in the public sphere and, since then, have generated earthquakes in our imagination about what is possible and the ways we narrate ourselves. From this rupture emerges a new configuration of the stones that constitute us, now pointing to other times, with scales that surpass the human-centered notion.
The works in this Estalo create temporary landscapes through images, sound, architecture, astronomical constellations, and medicinal and care practices, as well as symbolic structures of social relationships that shape collective identity.
