Public Programs
14th Mercosur Biennial
The big news at this 14th Mercosul Biennial are the Public Programs.
The curatorship, led by Anna Mattos and Marina Feldens, stems from the desire to connect institutions and independent dynamics, their audiences and non-audiences, the city and the beyond, by reflecting on the right to leisure as an opportunity to exercise cultural citizenship. Acknowledging that access to rest and free time is unequal, the Public Programs explore and discuss this right in different spaces and contexts, fostering social bonds, identities, and participation in collective life. The Public Programs aim to offer activities that broaden what a Biennial can do and what it can be. To achieve this, it’s crucial that people see themselves as part of the program—not only through engagement with artistic practices and educational actions, but also through leisure activities. That’s why the programming includes a wide range of events, such as concerts, film screenings, workshops, talks, performances, karaoke, parties, carnivals, walks, tournaments, tours, DJ sets, mediations, games, conversations, gossip, debates, and casual meetups. The goal is for this program to give people reasons to have fun, grow, relax, and feel a sense of belonging to the 14th Mercosul Biennial. It’s about building memories, perceptions, and experiences. It’s about creating opportunities for people to meet for different reasons, and making the right to leisure not just an expectation, but a reality.
